The Ills Canada Faces (Genre: Society)

While it would be impossible to enlist and discuss all the ills that are dragging this otherwise great nation down, it is wise here to make an attempt to briefly highlight all the unnecessary social ills, that which, if done away with, would do a great deal in making this country an ideal one.

Illicit sex or prostitution, meaning, pre-marital and extra-marital sex is the foremost ill which besides bringing a bad name is responsible for poor family lives, giving birth to bastards, spreading immorality and laying the foundation for the decay of a nation.

It is a matter of shame, that like other nations of the West, this prosperous and developed country has almost 90% of its population single, divorced or separated and it is the chief cause for distracting attention from its merits. How can you term an individual or society to be successful if it is not growing the way it was initially designed?

This is against God's wishes and He is not portrayed as polygamous in any religion. No religion gives sanction to illicit sex. Prostitution is a dangerous thing because it makes one immoral, makes one lose respect for family life and families, inculcates a sense of wrongdoing in a person while making relationships appear unholy as they stand and hence it must go away as it directly threatens all religions, a fair society and all that one can think.

More importantly, it is well poised, to ruin the lives of all those future generations who are being passed on with this ill, glamourized by the sex industry, chiefly operating in the West, most specifically the US.

Drugs including tobacco and liquor including beer are also unwanted for they lead to bad health and wasteful expenditure besides destroying social lives in many cases. It is strange that why the government allows these in the first place. Many police and social servants are a part of this, illegally trying to give a shield to this trade and they should be brought to book.

Killing animals for meat is another serious crime that is a bitter reality here. About 60 billion animals are killed each year globally and Canada is one big consumer of meat. Why do we kill turkeys for Thanksgiving Day? Don't animals have a right to live and do they not have the sensation of pain?

Daniel Livermore – Centre for International Policy Studies

Eating meat causes cancer, blood-related-problems, diabetes, obesity and many other health problems besides being the greatest cause of global warming and environmental pollution. Is meat-eating, then not a moral, social and physical taboo? After all, when is this human barbarism going to stop so that animal cruelty becomes a thing of the past?

Would God approve the killing of meek and speechless of His beings for food when there is so much in the plant kingdom? This is a question that all meat-eating people, most specifically, the Christians, the Muslims and the Jews need to answer as most Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains are vegetarian. The government should not promote it and only those who abhor such diets are really evolved and humane, in my opinion.

Another ill that Canada faces is "Racism" and the consequent discrimination of the immigrants in employment and social integration and it is a crime against humanity that should be made history. Canada should value merit and not race. It is a shame to see how government employees pay a deaf ear if a complaint to them is made on this count and they strangely show indifference on this. This is horrific as things stand out today and must immediately change.

It is alright for the political parties to discuss tax, social spending, health and so on for the purpose of generating publicity and seeking votes during election time but it is more important that these issues are sorted out for the greater good to make Canada, a society among societies. It is amply clear that these vices prove that corruption is global and an integral part of the West as also that it exists in its nudest form and that Canada is no exception.

It should be then the initiative of all educated and conscious to spread the word and remove these ills as it has first to do with one's spiritual, mental and physical well-being. It may take time and hard work for this to be achieved but with patience, the day can be won and it will be then that we all will see where the happiness truly lies.

In other words, the family and family values are that should be promoted and the demeaning values should be eschewed. It should be borne in mind that a successful society is one that carries out its duties in a respectable socio-cultural-religious way and doing away of these ills is surely going to make people positive and productive since it helps achieve overall satisfaction.

My question to all Canadians would be thus: are we ready for this one real change? Change is what shows us what we can do better as change is natural and the only constant. May the voice of sanity be listened by one and all!
